Mr. Petersen's practice focuses primarily on insurance regulatory issues. This includes the organization and licensure of domestic insurers, HMO's and other managed care organizations; the admission of foreign insurers; acquisitions and reorganizations; policy form drafting and filing; holding company filings; insurance producer licensing issues; and the representation of regulated entities before the Department of Insurance on a variety of issues. Much of Mr. Petersen's practice involves the Illinois Department of Insurance, but he has worked with virtually every state insurance department in the country.

As Assistant Chief Counsel to the Illinois Department of Insurance, Mr. Petersen's responsibilities included the overall management of the Department's legal staff; serving as Department counsel or hearing officer in Departmental administrative hearings; managing Department litigation; and drafting and implementing major revisions to the Illinois Insurance Code and Department regulations.
